Christianity
Christianity is a faith based on the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, recognised as the Son of God and Saviour of the world. Followers of Christ believe the Bible is God's revealed word, providing knowledge of His purpose for humanity and the world. Because the Bible shapes a Christian’s worldview, many prefer to seek psychotherapy from someone who shares their perspective. With this in mind, Mel offers her services as a Christian psychologist.
Why does Mel advertise as a Christian psychologist?
Mel advertises as a Christian psychologist to cater for people who share the Christian faith and wish to receive psychotherapy from someone who understands their worldview. Prior to private practice, when Mel worked in other settings, she sensed biblical insights could help her clients but felt constrained from openly discussing. This inspired her to openly advertise as a Christian, creating a therapeutic space where clients can explore how biblical principles relate to their mental wellbeing.
How does Mel integrate Christian beliefs and psychology?
Mel is often asked whether psychology and Christianity conflict with one another. Psychology seeks to understand mental processes and offers tools to improve emotional functioning. On the other hand, Christianity provides an understanding of the human condition—its beauty, brokenness, and the tendency for people to use adverse means to cope with emotional pain. Mel integrates psychological theory and techniques within this Christian framework to assist clients in their thinking, emotional resilience, and overall well-being.

Mel received her psychology training from mainstream universities. Her therapeutic approach is informed by this training, while her values and view of humanity derive from her Christian faith.
How is therapy with a Christian psychologist different?
Therapy with Mel as a Christian psychologist is similar to seeing a regular psychologist: appointments involve you speaking about your challenges and Mel will offer you insights and strategies to navigate them. What makes therapy with Mel unique is the opportunity to speak with someone who shares your faith and understands the vital place it plays in your life.

Mel is passionate about helping people seek God in the midst of their troubles. Pain is an inescapable reality of life. We all find various ways to cope with it, but therapy affords you the opportunity to face difficulties directly and grow in emotional maturity as a result. In fact, it is in our suffering that God most powerfully grows our characters and teaches us to depend on him.

Mel prays for you at the end of each appointment, acknowledging that it is God alone who has the power to transform us.
What if I'm not a Christian?
Mel is keen to provide therapy for individuals from diverse backgrounds, including varying religions, ages, races, and genders. While she offers her services as a Christian psychologist, she warmly welcomes and is equally committed to helping those who do not share the Christian faith.

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
